I painted this piece on a trip to the north shore of the island of Kauai. There's a scenic overlook between Princeville and Hanalei that is amazing. I pulled over, took a look and went back the next morning to paint this scene.

The island is full of dense, lush greenery so seeing this clearing was a beautiful contrast. I loved the orange tint of the clouds against the dark green on the mountains.
