A Day at the Pike, 1920

A Day at the Pike, 1920

$0.00

I created this painting based on a 1936 photograph taken by Col. Harrington W. Cochran of the iconic Long Beach Pike in downtown. His grandson, Stanley H. Cochran, three years old at the time is featured in the foreground. They were on a day trip from Pasadena that day.

The Pike was an amusement zone that was built in 1902 and lasted until 1979. It was the place to be in Long Beach in the 20s and 30s. I wanted to step out of my comfort zone by painting in a monochromatic scheme and by trying to keep the sepia feel of the photograph.

This is a 24”x30” original oil painting and comes in a gallery style frame.

This sold in the Long Beach Museum of Art’s auction September 2023 . You can read more about it here: https://www.lbma.org/fundraising-events/aaxx/
